Children’s fiction has always been very important to me as a Parent, Teacher and now an Author. I want children and young people to enjoy reading, to discover History through fact and fiction and also to learn about language through the fiction. This website has children’s pages, where I try to interest children in their own Family History. I encourage them to ask questions about the past and develop a concept of how things change over time. The pages offer support for those studying Tudor history at school There are also pages for Parents and Teachers to find out more about “A Rose On The River” and how it can be used to support learning.
I created the story, "A Rose On The River", for children between the ages of 7 to 12+ years old. The level of difficulty of the text and the plot is suitable for a range of abilities from this age group. However, older readers, including adults, have enjoyed this historical adventure story.
Much of the story is based on historical fact. It blends fact and make-believe to create a story that twists and turns in an exciting and realistic way.
The book is good for children and young people who enjoy adventure stories and who like to learn from what they read. It is a language and literature resource, which encourages children to tell stories as well as to listen and read, thus helping to develop oral language skills. Different styles of writing and language structures have been included to give young readers examples of the way in which words can be used.
This website also contains additional information that can form part of a discussion and extended activity whilst using this book. The text and ideas that can be developed in a cross-curricular way, offering opportunities to respond creatively; for example in Drama, Art and Craft, Music, Problem Solving and Technology. The book is published by McGraw-Hill Publications Group. It is sold to schools as part of the Kingscourt Educational Literacy Range and as an individual Reading Extension Book in its own right. It has been read by children in New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, America and of course UK. Signed copies of the book can be bought from me, the author, through this website. Copies are also available from McGraw-Hill or Kingscourt Educational Publications.

Welcome To My Website

I was born in England, about 32 kilometres from William Shakespeare’s birthplace, Stratford upon Avon. My love of all things Elizabethan began at school, with visits to the theatre at Stratford-upon-Avon. That fascination with Tudor history has continued over the years, culminating in using Tudor historical facts as a basis for fiction writing.
